Quad Con:

Hey everyone hope you all had a great week! Yesterday I had a table at Quad Con in Cedar Rapids, Iowa next to my pal and frequent collaborator John Ira Thomas.

I had a good time at the show. Sold some books, met some people, and got to talk about things I love. I didn’t sell insane amounts, but I’ve done so many events in this area already this year and crushed it all of them. A lot of the same people are going to them. I got to see friends, talk comics, and I sold a good amount of my stuff I have nothing to complain about.

Old Work:

I’m in an odd spot right now. I don’t have anything pressing to talk about or can talk about as it pertains to new things. Trey is hard at work drawing Hospice: The Collector, and Big Guns Stupid Rednecks comes out at the end of the month. I’ve been posting videos about some old writings I’ve had released and thought I might write and spotlight a few!

First up is the anthology Death Saves! This came out in 2016 and all the stories are centered around table top roleplaying. This might be the most popular anthology I have ever been a part of. I’m sad it’s out of print (you can find used copies pretty easy online).

The story I wrote is about a young boys barbarian character who comes to life. He now has a bad ass body guard now what could go wrong? Well the boy can only control his character by rolls of dice which leads to chaos. The story was drawn by Tim Quam, had colors by Aaron Veil, and letters by Dario Reyes.

The craziest part of this anthology is what many of the creators who contributed to this went on to do. Ben Bishop who drew TMNT: The Last Ronin drew a story in this. Josh Trujilo who put the entire thing together is a main stay writer at DC and Marvel, writing titles like Blue Beetle, Captain America, and Planet of the Apes vs The Fantastic Four.

Thanks to Heels Verses Faces I am technically a published poet. I don’t even know where to start with this one. It is a professional wrestling themed coloring and poetry book.

It features a poem and introduction from professional wrestler “The Genius” Lanny Poffo. Oh you’ve never heard of him? He sucked, but is wildy know as the brother to one of the greatest wrestlers of all time Macho Man Randy Savage. At one point when Randy was negotiating a contract a condition he had was they also signed Lanny, which they did only to use him on tv a handful of times before just paying for him to sit at home.

I didn’t think people would be as interested in these as they are. I have actually sold a lot of them and need to see if I can order more to have at cons with me.

Age of Androids was my third published comic story way back in the summer of 2013. I was very excited to be a part of it, at the time I was 18 and this place felt like the real deal. It was going to be in the style of Heavy Metal Magazine with comics, prose, and all kinds of cool shit I loved.

I had a short comic in it, but they had asked me to contribute a comic to each issue. The publisher had a table at San Diego Comic Con that year and were giving away 5,000 free copies (I can confirm this did happen). It seemed to be “my big break”.

I emailed them asking about the deadline for the next issue only to find out their wouldn’t be one. I was so confused they seemed super legit with a website, letterhead, contract, and they had a table at San Diego Comic Con. I asked them why their wouldn’t be any future issues only to get this response: “We didn’t make any money off of the first issue.”

Now I was new to making comics, but even back then it mad no fucking sense. If it was true how the fuck did you think you were going to make money by getting an expensive booth and giving away thousands of copies for free? To this day I think about that.

My story in this was not very good. Now it looked great, but it was a good idea no written well at all. The story was called Split and was penciled by Kurt Belcher, with inks by Bill Willingham, and letters by Mindy Lompkin. The idea was a super hero with two personalities.

One personality would be a kick ass crime fighter named Emily and the other would be Emily who was scared to leave the house. They would constantly argue with each other inside their head.
